Cybera Launches New Online Presence

heck Out the New Site for Summit 09 Highlights and the 2008-09 Cybera Annual Report

(October 27, 2009 – Calgary, AB) – Coming off of its highly successful event, Summit 09: Partnerships in CI Development, which ran October 12-16 in Banff, AB, Cybera is pleased to announce a new look for its website and the release of the 2008-09 Cybera Annual Report.

While maintaining the same address, the Cybera website is sporting a new look and a dynamic layout developed for stakeholders and other visitors to easily navigate and find useful information on Cybera’s projects, services and activities. Two new features include a revised Projects gallery and the Cybera Blog. The new Projects gallery is a showcase of Cybera’s pilot projects and will serve as a resource base that demonstrates the applications, benefits and collaborative opportunities supported by cyberinfrastructure. The Cybera Blog, formerly located on, has been embedded within the Cybera website to enable users to read blog entries and engage with blog authors without having to leave the Cybera site.

Another popular feature of the Cybera website is the Media Centre, where visitors can now download the 2008-09 Cybera Annual Report. The annual report, which was released during Summit 09, outlines the past year’s successes, services, projects, outreach initiatives, collaborative partnerships, financials and more.

This all follows last week’s conference, Summit 09, which attracted nearly 450 delegates from around the world and showcased leading edge cyberinfrastructure initiatives that are changing the ways we do business and perform research. The week-long event was hosted by Cybera, CANARIE, Open Grid Forum, and IEEE Grid 2009. Delegates from all areas of industry, academia, and government engaged in discussions and presentations that explored cloud, grid and high performance computing, data management, green IT, identity management solutions, and other emerging areas of cyberinfrastructure.

To view presentations and videos of the keynote addresses from the event, please visit the Summit 09 website.

Cybera works with the Government of Alberta, Cybera’s member organizations, other public and private Alberta organizations and interprovincial and federal partners to ensure Alberta’s competitiveness in advanced technologies. Expanded in 2007 from the existing Netera Alliance organization, Cybera manages CyberaNet, a high performance network that connects Alberta to CANARIE, Canada’s national research network. Cybera acts as the prime contractor for the management of WestGrid, a consortium that provides advanced computing for research to participating universities in Western Canada. Cybera also works with public and private partners to create pilot projects of new technologies that have potential benefits for Alberta and Canada.
