The Virtual Firewall Service alleviates the cost and time-consuming issue of hosting and maintaining firewall equipment by offering a virtual alternative.

Shared Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

Post-secondary institutions in Alberta are sharing the use of a single CISO to aid in the design and implementation of their security programs.

This initiative has been operated by Cybera since March 2019.

AB SecureIT

Alberta’s 26 post-secondary institutions are collectively sharing information and strategies to enhance security and privacy.

Joint Security Project

Building upon the successful pilot program, this project is developing a community of specialists to strengthen the overall security of Canada’s universities, colleges, and research institutions.

Security Information and Event Management

Canada’s 13 provincial, territorial and federal partners in the National Research and Education Network (NREN) are collaborating on a new security platform to coordinate protection of this critical infrastructure.

Canadian Shared Security Operations Centre

The goal of the CanSSOC project is to investigate the creation of a specialized cyber security incident and threat detection centre focused on the higher education sector.

Services offered in partnership with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) 

D-Zone Anycast

Cybera has partnered with CIRA to offer its members free access to D-Zone Anycast DNS.

This service is useful for larger public and education institutions in the province that run their own .ca domain, and are at risk of DDoS attacks.

D-Zone DNS Firewall

Cybera is also working with CIRA to promote this DNS-based firewall solution.

The firewall blocks malicious software, as well as communications that contain malicious code.

  • Working with the Government of Alberta to build shared cybersecurity frameworks and initiatives.
