Big data and research

Steve Liang networkModern research is all about data: gathering, sharing and analyzing large amounts of information in the most efficient way possible. Cybera is managing the development of tools and services to help global researchers rein in big data.

Pilot projects for researchers:

1) CyberSKA
A Canadian initiative to build a software platform that can handle data sets from the world’s biggest science initiative.

2) ArcticConnect
A geospatial platform that will connect with the most comprehensive Arctic mapping, sensor, research and cultural data on the internet.

3) Active Folders
A Dropbox-like tool for sharing research files in the terabyte-size range.

Cybera also connects the supercomputers, managed by WestGrid and Compute Canada, used to carry out Alberta’s high-performance computing.
