Cybera, a not-for-profit organization that works to spur and support innovation in Alberta through the use of cyberinfrastructure, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Anne Moser as Vice President — Strategic Communications. Moser, an experienced and respected science and technology communicator in Alberta, will take up this new role to further develop Cybera's communications goals and build new relationships within Canada's technical, business and political communities.
"We are very happy to have Mary Anne join our team as she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with communicating technology, as well as a great creative mind," says Robin Winsor, President & CEO of Cybera. "I look forward to working with her to further develop Cybera's reputation as a leader in networking, cloud computing, and related cyberinfrastructure services in Alberta."
Moser has built her career in public sector leadership where society and science intersect. She has worked as a journalist, an award-winning designer and became the founding editor of the Banff Centre Press in 1995. She started the Banff Science Communications Program in 2005, Canada's Iron Science Teacher competition in 2007 and was a member of the start-up steering committee for the Science Media Centre of Canada, launched in 2010. She is the editor of two books on science in society: Immersed in Technology (MIT Press 1995) and Science, She Loves Me (Banff Centre Press 2011). Her latest initiative, Beakerhead, is a major collaborative arts and engineering festival for the city of Calgary, to start in 2013.
"I have known for some time that Cybera is home to very talented people, and that's really important," says Moser. "Computing and networking tools are as essential as heat and light for innovation. Cybera has a crucial role in that and I'm excited to be a part of it."
Moser has a BSc in zoology, a Master's degree in communications, and an interdisciplinary PhD.
